This is a lovely piece of Vintage American China which has found new life in the role of seamstress assistant. It is such a pretty way to decorate a sewing room studio, as well as being a productive part of the sewing process - its cleverly repurposing old China & totally sweet decorative interior design piece. The cup and saucer have an extremely feminine & pretty and have an exquisite Cottage​/​Country Garden-scene, with Floral Foliage and Pink Flowers on an Antique Cream background. Vintage Cup & Saucer I believe are from the Empire Pottery, Trenton, New Jersey USA - they produced Ironstone​/​White Granite-Wares. I understand that Coxon & Thompson established the Pottery in around 1863 & it then became Empire Pottery around 1883-4 & they continued as a distinct pottery until aroma 1892 when the Company became part of the Trenton Potteries Company. The cup handle is trimmed with a fine Pink & Cream Ribbon Bow. The base of the Cup as been trimmed with Pearl & Pink-type beading. The pin cushion material is of a felt-the finish with various delicate items stitched onto the outer for a decorative finish. blue rose bow The pin cushion comes complete with all of the decoration shown. Please note the Cup & Saucer are attached together - glued I guess. This little Cup & Saucer if my investigations have been correct (& please understand I'm no great detective - just interested in old stuff) has many tales to tell - together they've survived throughout the Victorian Period, may well have been in full use when the Statue of Liberty was dedicated in New York, the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge, the sinking of the Titanic, World War I,Women gaining the Vote in the United States in 1920, the Wall Street Crash, World War II, the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, the introduction of the Internet, 9​/​11, Covid & Donald Trump becoming President of the USA & here they are still together acting as a Pin Cushion!!! Somehow they've managed to find their way together to the West Country of the United Kingdom into my care for the past 15-20 years or so - when I came across them (already made into this Pin Cushion) at an Antiques Fayre, fell in love with them & brought them home with me!! I've checked it all over & it all seems in great order - there is a area of crazing on the underside of the Saucers Glazing which I've photographed for your attention. Sadly, I now have to downsize considerably & my little treasured possessions are having to find new homes - so if you think you too could love this little set, to love & look after it then please enjoy the sprinkling of dust that comes with it too - as I've only ever used it for display (I am a zero needlework type of gal)!!!
