Causee Terms of Service
Effective Date: 31 July 2026
Last Updated: 31 July 2026
Welcome to Causee
Thank you for choosing Causee.
Our aim is simple: to create a marketplace where buying and selling is straightforward, enjoyable and built around making a positive difference.
Most transactions on Causee are completed without any issues. Occasionally, however, misunderstandings or unexpected problems can arise. These Terms explain how the marketplace works and the rights and responsibilities of everyone using it.
Whenever possible, we will always try to resolve issues fairly, reasonably and in a friendly spirit. We want buyers, sellers and our charity partners to have confidence in using Causee, and we will always seek practical solutions wherever we can.
These Terms are designed to protect everyone who uses the marketplace while helping us maintain a safe, trusted and enjoyable community.
1. About Causee
Causee operates an online marketplace connecting independent buyers and sellers. Unless expressly stated, Causee is not the seller of listed items. We provide the technology platform, payment infrastructure and marketplace services.
2. Our Approach
We encourage buyers and sellers to communicate respectfully and resolve issues amicably. Where required, Causee may review the available evidence and make decisions in good faith to protect the integrity of the marketplace.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
Users must be legally capable of entering into contracts, provide accurate information and keep account details secure. Causee may request identity verification where appropriate.
4. Buying on Causee
Buyers agree to pay the purchase price together with any applicable marketplace fees and to review listings carefully before purchasing.
5. Selling on Causee
Sellers confirm they have the legal right to sell listed items, that listings are accurate, photographs are genuine and items will be dispatched promptly in accordance with applicable law.
6. Marketplace Standards
Users must act honestly, communicate respectfully and comply with all applicable laws. Fraudulent behaviour, abuse, harassment, counterfeit goods, stolen property and prohibited items are not permitted.
7. Payments
Payments are processed through authorised payment providers. Funds are released in accordance with Causee's payment processes. Payments may be delayed where necessary to investigate fraud, disputes or legal obligations.
8. Charitable Giving
Causee is operated as a not-for-profit marketplace.
Before making charitable donations, Causee may retain funds that it reasonably considers necessary to:
- meet its operating costs and financial obligations;
- maintain prudent working capital and appropriate financial reserves;
- invest in the development, improvement, security and long-term sustainability of the marketplace;
- comply with legal, regulatory and tax obligations; and
- support the continued operation and responsible growth of Causee in pursuit of its charitable mission.
Subject to these requirements, Causee's intention is to donate 100% of its surplus profits to charitable organisations selected in accordance with its published policies.
Individual purchases do not create a legal entitlement for a specific charity to receive funds unless expressly stated by Causee.
9. Reviews
Reviews should be honest, accurate and based on genuine transactions. Attempts to manipulate reviews or misuse marketplace systems may result in account action.
10. Causee Decisions
Where Causee is required to make a decision or resolve a dispute, we will do so in good faith based on the information reasonably available to us. Our decisions will normally be final and, unless required by law, we are not obliged to reconsider decisions or enter into ongoing correspondence once a decision has been communicated.
11. Suspension and Termination
Causee may suspend, restrict or terminate listings, transactions or accounts where necessary to protect users, comply with the law or preserve the safety, reputation and integrity of the marketplace.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Causee excludes liability for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
13. Your Statutory Rights
Nothing in these Terms affects or limits any statutory rights you may have under applicable consumer protection legislation. If any provision conflicts with mandatory law, the relevant law will prevail.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the marketplace after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
16. Contact
If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact Causee using the contact information published on our website. We are always happy to help wherever we reasonably can.
These Terms should be read alongside the Causee Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and any other policies and guidelines published by Causee from time to time on www.causee.com.
17. Consumer Protection
Consumer protection laws do not apply to your purchases from other consumers. More specifically, the right to cancel (section 29(1) of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013) and the right to reject (section 20 of the Consumer Rights Act) does not apply. Buyer’s rights are significantly reduced when a sale is carried out between two individuals. More specifically, the following sections of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 do not apply: goods to be of satisfactory quality (section 9 of the Consumer Rights Act) and fit for a particular purpose (section 10 of the Consumer Rights Act). Goods from private sellers do not have to be fault-free and if defects or marks were clearly mentioned by the seller or are visible in the seller’s photograph, then you do not have a case against the seller. However, if the seller’s goods do not match the description, you have the right to ask for a refund or compensation. Every purchase you make using the ‘Buy now’ button is covered by our Buyer Protection service.
